Position Summary

The Life Support Systems Technician manages, maintains, repairs, designs, and installs water support systems for the aquarium’s animals exhibits, water features, and water quality. Provides a consistent flow of communication with all of the aquarium’s team members, establishing a positive teamwork environment in meeting designated water quality parameters. Assures accurate communication with vendors for product and material ordering.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of filtration components and their applications, hydraulic systems as they relate to aquariums, basic electrical and its application and repair,
  • Working knowledge of plumbing practices, materials, and tools related to the trade.
  • Knowledge of construction, operation, and repair of centrifugal pumps, heat exchangers, air compressors, automated control systems, filtration systems, sand filters, and protein skimmers
  • Knowledge of freshwater and seawater quality testing and chemistry concepts related to aquatic animals.
  • Knowledge of how-to oil, grease, clean, and replace motors, bearings, and other frictional wearing surfaces that are trade related.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English in order to communicate with fellow CASTmembers and the general public.
