Job Summary

The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum is seeking applicants for MALE – Presenting actor/historical interpreter roles. We are not hiring FEMALE – presenting roles currently. As a member of our Actor/Interpreter CAST, you will serve as a Host to our guests, dress in historical costume, and portray a historical character while leading guests through the museum experience. Each actor will perform multiple roles on site. Friendly/outgoing dispositions expected. Must be comfortable working with and leading large groups of people. Must be able to work in all weather scenarios as you WILL be outside for part of your day. Prior performance experience and an interest in revolutionary war era history strongly preferred.

Weekends/Holidays Required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • No prior knowledge is required, paid training is provided
  • Ability to learn and memorize scripted materials and historical details
  • Ability to work safely while wearing 18th century clothing
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and tolerate a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to work independently over long periods of time within the scope of established rules and regulations to satisfy the needs of our guests
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and difficult people both in person and via the telephone while maintaining a professional and pleasant demeanor
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English in order to communicate with fellow CASTmembers and the general public
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Prior performance or interpretation experience preferred
  • An interest in history is a plus

Schedule:

  • The BTPSM is open 7 days a week; closed only on Thanksgiving and Christmas day.
  • Day Shift
  • Some night shifts for extra programs or events
  • Must be available 1 weekend day (Sat or Sun)
